Anurag Gupta removed with immediate effect

According to sources, the Election Commission had directed to remove Anurag Gupta from the post of acting Director General of Police (DGP) with immediate effect. This step was taken on the basis of complaints against him. Many complaints were received against him in the last elections. This decision has been taken at a time when preparations are going on for the assembly elections in the state.

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) had accused him of biased conduct during the 2019 general elections. Subsequently he was relieved of his duties as Additional Director General of Police (Special Branch) of Jharkhand. At that time he was posted in the office of the Resident Commissioner in Delhi. He was barred from returning to Jharkhand until the election process was completed.

Even before this, during the 2016 Rajya Sabha by-election, Gupta was accused of misuse of position. He was then holding the post of Additional Director General of Police. At that time the Commission had constituted an inquiry committee against him. Based on the results of which a charge sheet was issued against him for departmental investigation. In this case, an FIR was registered against him in Jagannathpur police station in 2018. Subsequently, in 2021, the JMM (JMM) government of Jharkhand allowed investigation against him under Section 17 (A) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
