Big action by LG VK Saxena, ordered to dismiss all contractual employees of Delhi Women Commission

In an order issued on Monday, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) terminated the services of all its contractual employees with immediate effect. The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi held the BJP responsible and said it was disappointing that the party rendered hundreds of DCW employees unemployed on Diwali.

The DCW cited the Women and Child Development (DCW) order dated April 29, in which the LG had given permission to terminate the services of the employees.

Official sources said there were complaints of irregularities in the appointment process and the recruitment of contractual employees was done against the rules. 223 contractual posts were created in DCW, but in April this year, the Ministry of Women and Child Development terminated their services. At that time 52 employees were working in the commission.

The directive to terminate DCW contractual employees was issued in April, but a DCW office order was issued on Monday informing the employees.

Sources said that in June 2017, a committee appointed by the then LG said that the appointed contractual employees should not continue on the sanctioned posts without following proper procedure.

“AAP” said that it is contradictory that BJP had promised to regularize the contractual employees after coming to power in Delhi, but the LG appointed by the Central Government terminated the services of DCW employees. BJP did not immediately react to these allegations.

Swati Maliwal appealed to withdraw the decision

The statement of former DCW chairperson and Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal has come to light. Posting on X, she said, “I strongly condemn the sudden removal of hardworking contract employees working in DCW. These people have put their heart and soul into working for women and girls in the capital. In fact, ever since the Delhi government has closed their funds, they have been working without salary for several months. This order of the present Member Secretary of DCW is illegal and malicious. I appeal to the Delhi Government and Honorable LG that this order should be immediately withdrawn and the employees of the Commission should be reinstated. Delhi government should also pay them salaries before Diwali.”
