“I was about to play T20 World Cup final against South Africa but Rohit changed the decision 10 minutes before the toss”: Sanju Samson makes big claim

Sanju Samson was not given a game during Team India’s successful campaign in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit Sharma spoke to him before the final against South Africa in Barbados.

India won the mega contest by seven runs and lifted their second T20 World Cup trophy, having won in 2007.

“Rohit Sharma spoke to me about the decision he took. I told him to concentrate on the final and win it and then we can talk. He came back to me again and said that I am cursing him in mind and I am not happy. He mentioned that I have something on my mind. We then had a discussion,” Sanju Samson told Vimal Kumar.

“I told him that as a player, I wanted to be a part of the final as I was ready. However, they decided to go with the same team 10 minutes before the toss. I said that there were no worries as I was in that frame of mind,” he added.

Rishabh Pant was India’s wicketkeeper throughout the group stage and the semi-final, and the management decided to keep him for the final as well.

India remained unbeaten throughout the tournament and defeated Pakistan, Australia, and England before going past the Proteas in the finals.

Rohit, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from the shortest format after lifting the trophy. Suryakumar Yadav is now leading the Men in Blue in T20Is.
