The U.S. dollar rose against the Vietnamese dong to a near 2-month high but was little changed among peers Tuesday morning.

Vietcombank sold the dollar 0.09% higher at VND25,452, highest since July 31.

The State Bank of Vietnam hiked its reference rate by 0.05% to VND24,240.

The greenback jumped 0.79% to VND25,560 on the black market. It has gained 4.14% against the dong since the beginning of the year.

Globally the U.S. dollar clung to a two-and-half-month high on Tuesday on expectations the Federal Reserve will take a measured approach to interest rate cuts, while a close battle in the upcoming U.S. election kept investors on edge, Reuters reported.

The dollar index which measures the U.S. currency versus six rivals was last at 103.96 in Asian hours, having touched its highest level of 104.02 since Aug. 1 on Monday. The index is on course for an over 3% gain in the month.

The euro last bought $1.081725, wallowing near its lowest level since Aug. 2, while sterling was at $1.2982, hovering around its lowest level since Aug. 20.
