'Smile 2' director Parker Finn talks about casting Ray Nicholson

USवाशिंगटन : 'Smile 2' director Parker Finn talks about the horror sequel and casting for the film, reports Deadline. He said, he cast actor Ray Nicholson in the film starring Naomi Scott as an homage to his “favorite film of all time”, Stanley Kubrick's The Shining.

“I think I always try to reference The Shining,” he said. “With Ray, he auditioned for that role. The audition was so intense. Of course, Jack Nicholson is one of my favorite actors of all time. I love that Ray has very strong genes, and his smile, immediately , I was like, 'Oh my God, it's like seeing a young Jack,'” he said.

He further added, “What really impressed me was how well he played the toxic but charming character he played in the film. I am really intrigued that he can bring that emotion again. But there's a part of it that's tickling me, too.” Although Finn said he did not originate the role of Paul, the late actor husband of Scott's global pop star character Sky Riley, for Ray Nicholson, he called the casting “amazing luck”. The sequel to the 2022 horror film is based on Skye Riley (Naomi Scott), a famous pop singer. The film revolves around a mysterious entity that looks like people smiling in a scary manner. This haunts a psychiatrist played by Sosie Bacon. The pop sensation also becomes haunted by horrific events.

“Smile 2,” premiering in theaters Friday, stars as a pop phenom who grapples with the unspeakable and crippling effects of dealing with a sinister smiling figure who stalks her wherever she goes. As Deadline reports, for the Paramount sequel, which also stars Rosemary DeWitt, Kyle Gallner, Lucas Gage, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Peter Jacobson, Raul Castillo, and Dylan Gelula, Finn has tapped a cast of celebrities including Amy Winehouse, Whitney Houston, and Britney Spears. Often inspired by real-life stories of women affected by brutal conspiracies. (ANI)
