Question of meeting PM Modi avoided

Strong possibility of PM Modi and Xi meeting

However, a meeting between Modi and Xi has become more likely after India announced on Monday a major breakthrough towards ending the more than four-year-long military standoff with China in eastern Ladakh. Ahead of Prime Minister Modi's visit to Kazan, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had said in New Delhi on Monday that negotiators from India and China have reached an agreement on patrolling the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.

No reaction from Beijing on the announced agreement

Beijing has not yet responded to the agreement announced by Egypt. Relations between India and China had soured after the fierce clash in Galwan Valley in June 2020. This clash is being considered as the most serious military conflict between the two countries in the last several decades. China on Monday said the BRICS grouping representing emerging economies remains a positive and stable force committed to upholding multilateralism.

This is the year of beginning of BRICS cooperation

“I want to once again reaffirm that this is the year of the beginning of BRICS cooperation,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Li Jian told reporters here about China's perspective on BRICS. He had said that this summit is the first summit after the expansion of BRICS, which has attracted wide attention of the international community.
