Big blow to India before Commonwealth Games 2026! Hockey, cricket and wrestling removed; Know what is the reason

Commonwealth Games 2026: India has suffered a big loss before the Commonwealth Games 2026. Six sports have been removed from the next Games which will be held in Glasgow. These include badminton, cricket, hockey, squash, table tennis and wrestling. Apart from this, some other major sports have also been removed, in which India was expected to get medals.

The last Commonwealth Games were held in Birmingham, England, where India won medals in 12 sports. Now the next games will include only six of these 12 games. Archery and shooting, which were not in Birmingham, would also not be in Glasgow.

Reason for removing games

The main reason for removing so many games is economic. The Commonwealth Games 2026 were initially scheduled to be hosted in Sydney, but Australia withdrew from them citing financial constraints.

Glasgow offered to host

Subsequently, Glasgow offered to host, but they also decided to include fewer games for economic reasons, which the Commonwealth Federation agreed to. Due to this situation, India will find it difficult to maintain its success in sports.
