The panel's JPC meetings witnessed verbal exchanges between opposition members and representatives of the BJP and its allies. There were heated exchanges on Monday too, as opposition members raised questions over the “consultation process” on the bill and BJP members objected to them. Yesterday the Ministry of Minority Affairs presented oral evidence on the Waqf Bill.
Some opposition members accused the government of bringing the bill for political reasons and alleged that it was aimed at targeting the Muslim community. He also raised questions about “readiness” regarding the bill. AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi gave about an hour-long presentation before the JPC, highlighting “flaws” in the bill, sources said. Verbal clashes also took place between him and BJP members.
