BJP expressed confidence in Kewal Singh Dhillon, list of candidates released for Punjab by-elections.

By-elections are to be held on 4 assembly seats in Punjab. Voting is to be held here on November 13, the assembly seats on which by-elections are to be held include Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal (reserved), Gidderbaha and Barnala. Meanwhile, BJP has announced its candidates. The party has fielded its candidates in the electoral battle on three seats.

In this, Sardar Kewal Singh Dhillon from Barnala will try his luck. Along with this, the names of Sardar Ravikaran Kahlon from Dera Baba Nanak seat and Sardar Manpreet Badal from Gidderbaha are included in the list. He is the cousin of Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal. Earlier he was in the circle of Congress. He resigned from Congress in January 2023 and joined BJP.

Quote from Manpreet Badal from Giddedabaha

Manpreet Badal made his political debut by winning the 1995 by-election. Actually, in 1992, Raghubir Singh of Congress had won the election from here. But he was convicted in a crime, after which a by-election was held here and Manpreet Badal won this by-election.

Here, Congress MLA from Gidderbaha Amarinder Singh Raja had won from Ludhiana Lok Sabha seat of Wading earlier this year. After this this assembly seat became vacant.

Why was Keval Singh Dhillon expelled from Congress?

Only Singh Dhillon has got the ticket from Barnala seat. He has been MLA from this seat twice on Congress ticket. He was expelled from Congress on charges of anti-party activities. Dhillon has been considered very close to former CM Captain Amarinder Singh. Overall, the party has expressed confidence in the leaders coming to BJP from other parties in these by-elections.
