New Delhi: The Maharashtra government has recently decided to reduce the minimum passing marks in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) for the science and mathematics subjects. The mark has been reduced from 35 to 20 out of 100.
However, students who get the minimum marks will be marked as ‘passed’ on their Maharashtra SSC Class 10 result mark sheet along with a special note indicating that the student will not be able to take the maths or science courses.
As per TOI, Rahul Rekhawar, director of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), said, “Failing in mathematics or science, and in effect in SSC, often leaves students with no opportunities to continue their education, even if their strengths lie elsewhere. This change is designed to ensure that students are not unfairly pushed out of the system and can still pursue their academic and career aspirations”.
SSC students can reappear next year to improve marks
Additionally, if the student wants, he or she can appear for the Maha SSC supplementary exam or the regular exam the next year to improve their marks in the subjects and get a fresh mark sheet. As decided by the government, this change in the passing marks of the Class 10 exam will not be implemented this year and is a part of the new curriculum framework and has been approved by the school education department. This has been introduced so that students can take humanities and arts or otherwise drop out if they cannot secure passing marks in Class 10.
Maharashtra board SSC exams 2025
MSBSHSE board will release the Maharashtra Class 10 exam timetable 2025 in the month of November. The board is likely to conduct the exams in March 2025. The supplementary exam Class 10 Maharashtra will be tentatively held in July.
