Shubhman Gill Returns In the Second Test Against NZ

Shubhman Gill Returns In the Second Test: Indian cricket team coach Gautam Gambhir has confirmed that Shubhman Gill will be available to bat in the second Test against Bangladesh. Gambhir also gave an update on whether Japrit Bumrah will be rested against New Zealand.

Shubhman Gill Returns In the Second Test

Gambhir admitted that Gill’s absence from the first Test match was due to a neck injury. But the player is fit and available for the second Test and will also be included in the playing XI. The IND vs NZ second Test will be played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Friday, October 24.

“Shubhman Gill was injured in the last match. It’s not that he didn’t come in the team. He didn’t play the last match because of the injury. It started in his neck. So, obviously, the way his performance has been against Bangladesh, obviously he will come back to the playing XI. Rest, the playing XI has not been decided yet. We will see the Playing XI tomorrow morning and decide what combination we want to go with. Ultimately, whichever combination we go with, we will go with the combination so that we can win this test match,” said Gambhir.

Gambhir also spoke about Jasprit Bumrah, who was rumored to be rested in the second Test, to manage the workload. The workload management is being discussed due to India’s upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. The series will have 5 Tests and will be played in Australia. So the fitness of bowlers will be crucial for the team.

According to him, Bumrah will be in the XI for the second Test and its result will determine his exclusion from the third.

“Once the series is over, we still have around 10 or 12 days before the Test starts in Australia. So, that’s enough break for our fast bowlers as well. But we will still monitor after this Test match where Jasprit Bumrah is.

“But it’s not only about Jasprit Bumrah. It’s about all the fast bowlers as well. We want to keep them fresh. We know that obviously we’ve got a long tour and an important tour of Australia. But workload management will definitely depend on what the outcome of this Test match is and how much have they bowled in this Test match.”
