Madrid, October 24 (HS). Atletico Madrid has presented its candidacy to host the 2027 Champions League final at the club's Metropolitano stadium, UEFA confirmed on Wednesday.
The Metropolitano currently has only one rival to host European football's biggest game, which is the Baku Olympic Stadium in Azerbaijan, but the window is open until March 19, 2025, to present other candidates.
The 64,000-capacity stadium hosted the 2019 Champions League Final between Liverpool and Tottenham, which Liverpool won 2–0 with goals from Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi.
One factor against Atlético is the behavior of their fans, with UEFA recently fining the club 30,000 euros after a section of their supporters gave a Nazi salute during a recent 4–0 defeat to Benfica.
