Police in central Khanh Hoa Province will ramp up unannounced inspections of game service facilities that cater to foreign tourists with signs of violations.
Le Huu Hoang, vice chairman of the Khanh Hoa People’s Committee, said the police would collaborate with the Department of Finance, the Department of Culture and Sports and the Department of Taxation to conduct these inspections, as part of efforts to tighten oversight on companies providing prize-based gaming services to foreigners.
Currently, nine businesses in Khanh Hoa are authorized by the Ministry of Finance to offer gaming services with prizes. Since 2022, eight of these establishments have been under regular scrutiny, including Tan Viet company at Sunrise Hotel, Nha Trang Lodge company, Sovico Khanh Hoa company at the Evason Ana Mandara Nha Trang Hotel, and Dai Phuoc Loc DL company at Diamond Bay Hotel.
However, the East Ocean Real Estate-Tourist company, operating at the Sheraton Nha Trang Hotel, has not been subjected to regular ministry inspections. Despite submitting frequent reports to the Department of Finance regarding their gaming activities, the firm is now slated for more checks in coordination with local authorities and the Ministry of Finance.
A surprise inspection in May last year at the Gameclub Lucky, located in the basement of the Sheraton Nha Trang Hotel & Spa, revealed that the facility, established by Jo Wan Su and Ngo Van Chuyen, was disguising itself as a legitimate gaming service provider but was actually operating as an illegal gambling venue for foreigners.
