Typhoon Trami heading towards south China's island city

Sansha: Typhoon Trami is increasing its intensity and is expected to enter the South China Sea on Thursday evening, according to the meteorological observatory in Hainan, China's southernmost island province.

The observatory forecast heavy rains and strong winds along the typhoon's path passing through Shisha and Zhongsha islands, which will hit Sansha city, Xinhua reported.

Fishing boats and other vessels have returned to port to shelter, and sandbags have been used to reinforce buildings in Sansha. China's National Meteorological Center on Thursday morning renewed its blue warning for Trami, which is listed as the 20th typhoon of this year.

China has a four-tier emergency response system, with Level I being the most severe response, and a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red denoting the most severe, followed by orange, yellow, and blue.
