Costco Just Recalled Salmon Due to Listeria Risk

Costco just announced a recall on smoked salmon, according to a notice sent to consumers. This is due to the affected product being potentially contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The recalled Kirkland Signature Smoked Salmon was sold in warehouses across the Southeast U.S. from October 9, 2024 through October 13. The impacted product has a printed lot number of “8512801270.” If you have the recalled smoked salmon on hand, dispose of it immediately or return it to your local Costco for a full refund.

Exposure to Listeria bacteria can cause foodborne illness known as listeriosis. Common symptoms of listeriosis include fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. However, people that are pregnant, age 65 or older or immunocompromised may experience more severe symptoms like headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions.

If you are noticing any of these symptoms after consuming the recalled salmon, talk to your doctor as soon as possible. Listeria bacteria can quickly spread to other food, surfaces and people, so be sure to follow the FDA guidelines and wash your hands, refrigerator and countertops after handling any potentially contaminated products.

For questions about this recall, contact Acme Smoked Fish Corp. at (718) 383-8585 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST.
