Rohit Sharma Got Bowled for Duck By Tim Southee: India almost had a desired day on day 1 of the India vs New Zealand 2nd Test in Pune, but for the wicket of captain Rohit Sharma towards the end of it.

New Zealand captain Tom Latham won a crucial toss and elected to bat first on a slow and turning Pune surface that is set to get worse for batting as the match progresses. Chasing anything over 120 will be tricky and challenging for the Indian team on this pitch.

They did well to restrict the Black Caps to 259, after at one point they were threatening to go beyond 300 through Washington Sundar’s seven-wicket haul. Sundar recorded his first Test five-for in what is his first Test match after over three years.

India bundled out the Kiwis in 79.1 overs and had 11 overs to negotiate in the last hour of play. However, captain Rohit couldn’t get through to Tim Southee’s opening spell as he was castled with a brilliant delivery. Southee had bowled Rohit in the first innings of the first Test as well in Bengaluru.

While in Bengaluru Rohit had danced down the pitch, looking to hoick down the ground, and the ball crashed through his huge pad-bat gap, in Pune, Southee completely outdid Rohit on the outside edge in his defensive stroke.

Southee bowled a perfect seamer’s delivery. It came in and pitched on the good length on off and middle and seamed away just a little bit. The movement off the pitch was enough to beat Rohit’s bat, but not enough to miss the off-stump. Rohit Sharma was left in a weird position as he saw the bails fly off.
