Kolkata, 24 October (Hindustan Reporter). On the occasion of 62nd Walong Day, Indian Army successfully completed 251 kilometer cycle expedition with unmatched courage and enthusiasm. This information was given on Thursday evening from the Army’s Eastern Command Headquarters in Fort William, Kolkata. The Army said that this three-day adventurous journey passed through the picturesque valleys of Lohit Valley and concluded today at Namti War Memorial.
The cycle expedition was organized in collaboration with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh and North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO), traveling through three border districts of Namsai, Lohit and Anjaw. The campaign was launched from the Golden Stupa by Chona Main, Honorable Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh on 21st October. The occasion was graced by senior officials of the Indian Army, Government of Arunachal Pradesh and NEEPCO along with 750 enthusiastic local people of Namsai and Lohit. 62 cyclists from the Indian Army, adventure travelers from Pune and local cyclists participated in the expedition.
The three-day long journey saw the cyclists cross tough and varied terrain, including Kamlang Nagar Tiger Reserve, Wakro and the holy site Parashuram Kund. During the journey, the cyclists interacted with the local community of Hayuliang and stressed the importance of health and fitness while promoting adventure tourism. The cyclists walked along the banks of Lohit River and passed through Walong village to reach their final destination Namti.
The closing ceremony witnessed a deep sense of camaraderie among the team members and a sense of honoring the memory of the martyrs. This cycle expedition is not only a symbol of courage and enthusiasm, but it also reflects the commitment of the Indian Army to promote tourism in the border areas and pay tribute to the brave soldiers martyred in defense of the country.
