Latest News :- Practicing doctors protesting for justice in the case of murder of a senior female practicing doctor of RG Garh Government Medical College Hospital have set a deadline of October 21 for the West Bengal government to fulfill their demands. If this does not happen, he has warned of statewide protests on October 22.

Debashish Halder, one of the protesting doctors, told reporters, “We want Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to talk to us and fulfill our demands. If the demands are not met, junior and senior doctors of all government and private hospitals will go on a statewide strike on Tuesday (22 October). Our friends are on hunger strike. If no action is taken by next Monday (October 21), we will also join the protest from Tuesday. He said.

Sayantani Ghosh Hazra, another practicing doctor who participated in the protest, said, “When our hunger strike has been going on for 14 days, why has Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee not come to meet them till now. He is the protector of this kingdom. We are like their children. Shouldn't they meet us at least once for our legitimate demands?” Hazra is on hunger strike since October 5.

Junior doctors are continuously protesting with 10 demands including getting justice for the deceased female trainee doctor, changing the state health secretary, providing adequate facilities for doctors in hospitals and ensuring their safety. In support of the protest by trainee doctors, 50 senior doctors of RG Garh Hospital resigned on 8th. He is also participating in the ongoing hunger strike in the center of Kolkata.

Earlier on August 9, trainee doctors had gone on a 42-day strike after the sexual harassment and murder of a female trainee doctor at RG Garh Medical College Hospital. The strike was called off on September 21 after the state government gave assurance to the doctors. However, doctors allege that the promises were not fulfilled.
