Prices of Ri6 and Monthong durians edged higher on Friday in the Mekong Delta and Central Highlands, Vietnam’s two main durian – producing regions.
The highest-grade Ri6 durian now costs VND125,000 (US$4.72) per kilogram in both the Mekong Delta and the Central Highlands, up 4.2% and 8.7%, respectively, from Thursday.
The price of Monthong durian rose by 3.6% to VND145,000 per kilogram in both regions.
For exports, the Ri6 variety saw its price inch up by 1.3% to VND152,000 per kilogram, while the Thai cultivar increased by 0.6% to VND179,000.
According to the Vietnam Securities Economic Magazinedurian supply is running out as October – the last month of the harvest in the Central Highlands – in ending while demand for the fruit, both domestically and globally, remains high.
Exports of the fruit has also been rising, hitting $931 million in October, a 1.52% increase from last month and up 53.1% from a year earlier.
Dang Phuc Nguyen, general secretary of the association, said durian shipment value is expected to reach $3.5 billion for the whole year.
Vietnam will likely see favorable weather for crops in the remaining months of the year, while other countries might struggle with supply, he noted.
