The Supreme Court refused to grant bail to Delhi riots accused Sharjeel Imam, but the Delhi High Court asked for an early hearing on Sharjeel's petition. The bench of Justices Bela Trivedi and SC Sharma said that the matter is pending in the High Court, hence it is not appropriate to leave it and file the petition directly in the Supreme Court.

Sharjeel's lawyer Senior Advocate Siddharth Dave said that the bail plea is pending since 2022, while he clarified that at the present stage he is not pressing for bail. He said that the hearing in the High Court has been postponed several times in the last two years. On this, the judges said that the case is scheduled in the High Court on 25th November, the petitioner's lawyer demanded an early hearing from the High Court on that day.

The bench said, “This is a writ petition filed under Article 32 of the Constitution, so we are not inclined to consider it. However, the petitioner will have the freedom to request the High Court to hear the bail petition early, the High Court will consider this request on November 25.
