NEET PG 2024 hearing postponed: Why are candidates arguing on result transparency?

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has deferred the hearing of a petition challenging the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2024 result transparency. The Justice JB Pardiwala bench will now hear the case on a non-miscellaneous day. The bench has raised concerns about the non issuance of answer key and answer scripts and responded that the matter requires further consideration. A total of 19 candidates filed a petition arguing result transparency and requested NBEMS to release response sheets, raw scores, pre-normalized scores, normalized results and answer keys for the exam.

Why are candidates arguing on NEET PG result transparency?

The NEET PG aspirants have raised questions on the changes in paper pattern days before the exam. Senior Advocate Vibha Makhija earlier argued in the apex court about the need of changes in paper pattern days before the exam. The senior advovate also raised questions about the counselling process. “Usually what happens for counselling is that the schedule is fixed. This year, what happened is on September 20 when a notice was issued by your lordships (the bench) in the morning, and in the evening a one-page notice was issued saying the counselling would begin at 5 pm. Registrations have been called for but no schedule, no Performa, no information bulletin,” the advocate said.

The aspirants have raised concerns about the transparency of the exam as there were allegations of NEET PG paper leak on Telegram channels. Dr.Dhruv Chauhan, National Council Member IMA-JDN said, “There have been instances and allegations of NEET PG paper leak via telegram channels which came into highlight just before the exam and students wanted transparency and investigation on this issue and demand to ban such groups sharing alleged exam papers.”

The NEET PG aspirants are also demanding a fair normalisation process as the shift two was comparatively tougher than shift one. NEET PG was held on August 11 in two shifts- 9 am to 12.30 am and 3.30 pm to 7 pm.

Demands of NEET PG 2024 aspirants

  • The candidates are in demand to release NEET PG answer key, response sheets, question papers for both the shifts
  • Disclosure of pre-normalised scores, final normalised scores
  • Revaluation options, the candidates will get opportunity to revaluate their answer sheets.

Delay in NEET PG Counselling 2024

The delay in NEET PG counselling 2024 has raised uncertainty over the future of lakhs of aspirants who took the exam. NEET PG result was declared on August 23 and it’s been over two months the counselling dates are yet to be announced.

A NEET PG aspirant in its X handle posted, “With each passing day, the uncertainty around NEET PG counselling is troubling many aspirants. While some may feel it’s better to enjoy the break before residency begins, not everyone has that privilege. Some face difficulties in securing jobs due to contract issues, many mid-rankers are uncertain about whether they’ll get their desired branch, and others were unsure whether to prepare for INI-CET November or take a break, but now the exam is approaching faster than the counselling. Additionally, those considering taking a drop are confused about whether the exam will be in March or later, as not everyone can afford another drop year easily. It’s utter chaos, with a lack of understanding of the ground realities.”

The NEET PG counselling process consists of registration, choice filling, seat allotment, seat acceptance and reporting. The candidates will get their desired college on the basis of seat allocation during the NEET PG counselling.
