Assembly elections are going to be held in Maharashtra. The Election Commission team has become active since the announcement of elections. Meanwhile, EC has seized a huge consignment from Pune in Maharashtra itself. Late on Friday night, EC's Static Surveillance Team (SST) seized a consignment of gold worth Rs 139 crore. This consignment was seized from the vehicle of a logistics service firm. However, a Pune-based jeweler firm claimed that this was a legitimate consignment of gold.

This is how a big consignment of gold was caught

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Smartana Patil gave information about the matter. He told that a tempo of Sequel Global Precious Logistics was stopped in Sahakarnagar area. When searched, boxes were found in the tempo, which were filled with gold jewellery. The tempo had come from Mumbai. The Income Tax Department and election officials were informed about the matter. The value of jewelery found in the tempo is Rs 139 crore.

Jewelery firm said- the consignment is legitimate

Amit Modak, CEO of a jewelery company named PN Gadgil & Sons, said that this consignment of jewelery is legitimate. This is jewelery from various goldsmith shops in Pune. This also includes 10 kg of gold of his company. There is also a GST invoice with every jewellery. Modak told that there was a consignment of gold in the tempo, even the tempo driver was not aware of it. There is also diamond jewelery worth Rs 1.5 crore in the consignment.

Administration has also deposited five crore cash

Earlier, on October 21, the administration had recovered cash worth Rs 5 crore from Pune Rural. The police seized this cash during the blockade on the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway. The car was going to Satara, in which four people were traveling.

Voting on 20th November

Elections will be held on a total of 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra. Elections will be held in a single phase. The last date for nomination is 29 October. Voting date is 20th November. Counting of votes will take place on 23rd and victory and defeat will be clear.
