Latest News :- Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Russia on Wednesday to participate in the BRICS summit. During this conversation, both the leaders agreed that special representatives would meet soon on the India-China border issue. Press Release issued by Prime Minister's Office: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan today (October 23). At the time, Prime Minister Modi welcomed the recent agreement to resolve issues arising in the India-China border areas by 2020 and complete withdrawal of troops and noted the importance of properly handling differences and conflicts.

The two leaders agreed that India-China Special Representatives on the border issue will meet soon to monitor the management of peace and stability in the border areas and find an equitable, responsible and mutually acceptable solution to the border issue. Appropriate talks will be held at the level of Foreign Ministers and other officials to stabilize and rebuild bilateral relations. The two leaders affirmed that stable, predictable and harmonious bilateral relations between India and China, as two neighboring countries and two major countries of the world, will have a positive impact on regional and global peace and prosperity.

The leaders pointed to the need to pursue bilateral relations in a systematic and long-term perspective. The leaders committed to enhance strategic communication and cooperation to address development challenges, the press release said. Chinese state media reported that during the meeting, Chinese President Xi Jinping told Prime Minister Modi that India and China should strengthen their relationship through communication and integration.

Significance of the encounter: Last year in 2020, the biggest clash between Indian and Chinese soldiers took place in the Kalwan Valley of Ladakh. After this war, tension arose between the two countries. After several rounds of talks, war tension on the border reduced. After this, during the G20 summit held in Bali, Indonesia in 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping. However, the two leaders did not talk alone.

Chinese President Xi Jinping did not participate in the G20 summit held in Delhi last year. Both of them had participated in the BRICS summit held in South Africa last year. Still there was no conversation between the two leaders. In this connection, both of them participated in the BRICS summit in Russia. Before this, an important agreement has been signed between India and China for smooth patrolling on the Ladakh border. With this the 4 year old border dispute between the two countries has been resolved. In this context, the official meeting between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the BRICS summit assumes significance.
