Valmikinagar. The quarterly meeting of India-Nepal District Level Border Coordination Committee was held in a very pleasant atmosphere at Valmiki Auditorium, Valmikinagar on Saturday. In this meeting, high officials of border districts of Nepal and District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police of East Champaran district participated along with their delegation.
Guard of Honor was given to all the officers participating in the meeting of India-Nepal District Level Border Coordination Committee. The meeting started with the national anthems of both the countries. After this, the District Magistrate, West Champaran welcomed the high officials of Nepal by giving them saplings and shawls.
The meeting discussed the achievements of the previous meeting, controlling cross border crime smuggling, drug trafficking, fake currencies, small arms smuggling, illicit trade etc.), timely sharing of information, control on cross border illicit liquor trade and enforcement of liquor ban. Other important topics including smuggling of timber and cattle, control of illegal cross-border movement, etc. were discussed.

He said that Valmikinagar is the only tiger reserve in the state of Bihar, which is surrounded by gurgling rivers, high mountains on one side and dense forests on the other. Earlier, the meeting of Indo-Nepal District Level Border Coordination Committee used to be held either in Nepal Rashtra or in East Champaran Motihari. West Champaran District Administration had a deep desire that the next meeting should be held in West Champaran. Therefore, in the light of the decision taken in the last meeting, today we all have attended the meeting of Indo-Nepal District Level Border Coordination Committee in Valmiki Auditorium situated amidst the twittering sound of rivers, it is a matter of great joy for West Champaran district. He said that there is a bread-and-daughter relationship between India and Nepal, which has been going on continuously for centuries. Due to the spirit of mutual cooperation, this relationship is getting stronger day by day. The words of thanks would be inadequate for the kind of support received during the Lok Sabha general elections held in West Champaran district recently.
He said that due to increase in water level in Gandak river, flood situation arises in West Champaran district. But due to timely receipt of information about rise in water level from Devaghat in Nepal, along with warning the general public, we are able to significantly reduce the loss of life and property. Giving information, he said that this meeting was organized in the last week of September, but due to the increased water level in other rivers including Gandak river, the meeting had to be postponed. Even at that time, the damage could be reduced by the district administration by being alert and receiving timely information about the rise in water level from Nepal.
He said that both crime and drug trafficking are major problems of the country. India and Nepal have been able to reduce crime and drug trafficking through exchange of information and mutual coordination and cooperation by the officials of the region.
In the meeting of India-Nepal District Level Border Coordination Committee, Additional Collector, Shri Rajeev Kumar Singh, through power point presentation, highlighted the achievements of the previous meeting, cross border crime smuggling, drug smuggling, fake currencies, small arms smuggling, illegal trade etc. Reports were presented on important topics including controlling illicit liquor trade across the border, timely sharing of information, enforcement of liquor ban, smuggling of wildlife derivatives, timber and cattle, control of illegal cross-border movement, etc.
Shri Kumar Ravindra, Additional Collector, Departmental Investigation made the announcement. After the end of the meeting, the senior officials of Nepal were honored by giving mementos on behalf of India. Similarly, high officials of India were honored by the high officials of Nepal by giving them insignia.
At the end of the meeting, senior officials of both the countries shared information on important topics and suggestions were given to solve collective problems using technology in future.
