“Like India’s win in Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia”: Aakash Chopra rates New Zealand’s first-ever Test series victory in sub-continent nation

New Zealand defeated India by 113 runs in the second Test in Pune to take a 2-0 lead in the three-match series. It is New Zealand’s first-ever red-ball series victory in the subcontinent nation. Chasing 359 runs to win. The hosts were bowled out for 245 on Day 3. Mitchell Santner took 13 wickets and was named the Player of the Match for his effort.

Former player Aakash Chopra compared the Kiwi’s series win with the Men in Blue’s triumph in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. “It is a memorable day for New Zealand as they won their first Test in India after 36 years. The visitors then went one step ahead and clinched their first-ever Test series win in India. Their victory is at part with India’s success in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.

“India was a final frontier. We defeated Australia in Gabba to conquer the final frontier, and New Zealand has done the same with us. Lots of teams have come to India but failed to win the series. It will do a world of good to New Zealand cricket,” Aakash Chopra said on JioCinema.

Aakash also questioned the four batting collapses in four innings: “India saw four batting collapses as batters didn’t take up the responsibility of staying at the crease. We scored 46 after winning the toss in Bengaluru and when we were cruising in the second innings, there was another colipase after the dismissal of Sarfaraz Khan.

“In Pune, we witness a similar story.  The batters didn’t show up when it was needed,” he added.
