China-India issue is not resolved, Jaishankar said – LAC patrolling agreement does not mean that everything is fine

Pune: The ongoing dispute between India and China has not been resolved yet. Everything is not going well between the two countries right now. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday said that the agreement with China regarding patrolling on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) does not mean that the issues between the two countries have been resolved. However, the withdrawal of troops has provided an opportunity to consider the next step, he said.

The External Affairs Minister gave credit for the agreement to the Army, which worked under very unimaginable circumstances. Jaishankar said in a program in Pune that the agreement reached on October 21 for withdrawal of troops. Under this, patrolling will be done in Depsang and Demchok. With this we will now be able to consider the next step. It is not that everything has been resolved, but the first phase of withdrawal of troops is there and we have been successful in reaching that stage.

S Jaishankar, in response to a question during his interaction with students here, said it will still take time to normalize relations. He said it will naturally take time to rebuild trust and work together. He said when Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazan, Russia for the BRICS Summit, it was decided that the foreign ministers and national security advisors of the two countries would meet and see how to move forward.

We stuck to our guns

Jaishankar said that if we have reached here today, one of the reasons is that we have made a very determined effort to stick to our views and put forward our views. The Army was present there i.e. at the LAC in very unimaginable circumstances to protect the country. The army did its job and diplomacy also did its job. He said that India has improved its infrastructure in the last decade. He said one of the problems was that the border infrastructure was virtually neglected in earlier years.

Resolved the dispute that had been going on for four years

Jaishankar said that today we are devoting five times more resources per year than a decade ago, the results of which are visible. Enabling the Army to deploy truly effectively. A few days ago, an agreement was reached between India and China regarding withdrawal of troops and patrolling along the LAC in eastern Ladakh, which is a major success towards ending the standoff that has been going on for more than four years.

The armies of both the countries are very close to each other.

In June 2020, relations were strained after a fierce clash between the soldiers of the two countries in the Galwan Valley. It was the most serious military conflict between the two sides in the last few decades. He said that since September 2020, India was in talks with China to find a solution. The Foreign Minister said that this solution has many aspects. He said that the most important thing is that the soldiers have to retreat. Because they are very close to each other and there was a possibility of something happening.

The important thing was related to patrolling

The Foreign Minister said that after this a big issue is how you manage the border and how you negotiate the border agreement. Whatever is happening now is the first phase which is the withdrawal of troops. The External Affairs Minister said that India and China agreed at some places on how the troops will return to their bases after 2020. But one important thing was related to patrolling.

Jaishankar said that patrolling was being disrupted and we were trying to negotiate on this for the last two years. So what happened on 21st October was that in those particular areas Demchok and Depsang we came to an understanding that patrolling would resume in the same manner. Like it used to be before.
