Speaking to a group of media persons from Chhattisgarh at his official residence in the capital Agartala on Saturday evening, Tripura Chief Minister Dr Saha said that about 31 per cent tribals live in the state and various schemes and programs are being run for the upliftment of the tribals. The schemes will be implemented for the upliftment of tribals in Tripura. He said that Tripura government will send a team to Chhattisgarh to study the new schemes of Chhattisgarh government.

Tripura has favorable agro-climatic conditions for cultivation, pineapple, jackfruit, cashew, litchi, orange, ginger, turmeric and others are the major crops of Tripura. Tripura is the largest producer of jackfruit in the country and its queen pineapple has received the GI tag and has seen its export in huge quantities across the world.

Tripura is the second largest producer of natural rubber and the second largest rubber producing region in the country. After Kerala, Tripura accounts for about nine percent of India's total rubber production. Rubber has been identified as a thrust sector for investment in Tripura. Dr. Saha said that Tripura Rubber Park has been developed at Bodhijangnagar for the development of rubber based industries in the state.

Of the 130 species of bamboo available in India, Tripura is home to 21 species of bamboo. About 60 percent of the country's requirement of bamboo sticks for making incense sticks is met from Tripura. Tripura Chief Minister said, Tripura Bamboo Mission is catalysing the integrated development of bamboo and handicrafts industry through Bamboo Park, Common Facility Center and Design and Product Development Cell.
