Rajasthan News Desk!!! The Desert National Park was established in the year 1980 with the aim of preserving both the desert flora and fauna. Millions of tourists visit this place to get a glimpse of the sand dunes and exotic animal species amidst the desert landscape. It is located in Rajasthan and displays the remarkable ecological biodiversity of the famous Thar Desert. The pleasant ecosystem comprises of diverse flora and fauna as well as rich wildlife which provides an enjoyable experience through the rugged mountains, broken lands and sand dunes of the desert.

The enchanting beauty of the rocky cliffs, roads and dense salt lake mesmerizes the heart and soul of every tourist who comes here. The area is a haven for migratory and resident birds of the desert. Many eagles, harriers, hawks, vultures, kestrels and vultures. Among birds, the short-toed eagle, tawny eagle, spotted eagle, lager falcon and kestrel are the most common. Sand grouse are seen near small ponds or lakes. The endangered Great Indian Bustard is a magnificent bird found in relatively good numbers at this place. It migrates locally in different seasons. The best time to visit this region is between November and January. The Desert National Park contains a collection of animal and plant fossils dating back 180 million years. Dinosaur fossils dating back approximately 6 million years have been found in this area. The Desert National Park is mostly famous for the Indian Blackbuck which is a rare species among deer and antelope.

Vegetation is sparse, patches of sea grass and aca bush or calotropis can be seen at this location. The landscape includes rugged cliffs and compact salt lake beds, as well as intertidal zones and both stable and changing dunes. About 20 percent of the vast expanse is covered with sand dunes. Some of the lakes in the Desert National Park are worth visiting, like Padam Talao Lake, Rajbagh Lake, Milak Lake which are the main water sources for the animals living in this sandy environment.

Entering Desert National Park
: All visitors wishing to visit the Desert National Park will have to pay an entry fee of Rs 100 per person. Renting a jeep or car costs an additional Rs 100 and renting a coach costs an additional Rs 200.
Best time to visit: November to March

How to reach Desert National Park?

The national park is located about 40 km from Jaisalmer city and tourists can reach here by bus or by hiring a cab or taxi from Jaisalmer city.
