Madurai: Due to sudden unexpected rain in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, especially 4.5 cm rain in just 15 minutes on Friday evening, many areas of the city have been submerged. The water from this unexpected rain entered the settlements and filled them with knee-deep water, causing problems to the residents.

Amid fears of a breach in the traditional water source 'Kanmoi', people found it difficult to protect their belongings as water flooded their houses. In this regard, Madurai Corporation Commissioner C. Dinesh Kumar said, “All the Kanamois are safe and are filled to the brim with water, which is flowing towards the Vaigai River.” Now efforts are being made to pump out the water.”

He also said that the affected people have been kept in four relief centers and they have been given food, water and medicine. “All Kanmoi and channels are fine and no damage has been reported,” Kumar said.

State Commercial Tax Minister P Murthy and IT Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan visited flood-affected areas and consoled people. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, Madurai received 4.5 cm rainfall from 3 pm to 3.15 pm on October 25.
