Pakistan's new captain announced, Mohammad Rizwan will take command of ODI and T20

Mohammad Rizwan: After the disappointing performance in the ODI World Cup 2023, the Pakistan cricket team has made important changes. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed experienced wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan as the new captain of ODI and T20 formats. Babar Azam recently decided to step down from the captaincy of limited overs format, after which this responsibility has been given to Rizwan.

These changes have been made before the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 to be held in Pakistan. With this decision of PCB, Agha Salman has been appointed as the vice-captain. Rizwan's first assignment as captain will be the white ball tour against Australia.

Mohammad Rizwan becomes the new white ball captain

Making an official announcement, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said that Mohammad Rizwan has taken over the post of captain of white ball format in place of Babar Azam. 32-year-old Rizwan said in a PCB statement that he is extremely proud to receive this responsibility and considers it a great honor. Rizwan made his debut in white ball cricket in 2015 and has played 74 ODIs and 102 T20 matches so far.

Agha Salman became the vice-captain

Agha Salman has been appointed as the vice-captain along with Rizwan. Agha Salman has shown continuous improvement in his game, and has been made the vice-captain of the ODI and T20 team for the future. PCB said that Agha Salman will captain the T20 team in the Zimbabwe tour, because Rizwan has been rested during that period.

Captaincy started from Australia tour

Mohammad Rizwan's first challenge as captain will be the white ball series against Australia, which will start from November 4. Pakistan will play three ODIs and three T20 matches in this tour. After the Australia tour, Pakistan's next match will be against Zimbabwe, where they will play three ODIs and three T20 matches.

Babar Azam and other major players included in the selection

The PCB has also confirmed that fast bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah have got a place in the team for the Australia tour, while Babar Azam will also return to the white ball format after the final two Test matches. However, these key players have been rested during the Zimbabwe tour.
