New Delhi: Since a video of a policewoman from Haryana refusing to buy a ticket on a Rajasthan Roadways bus went viral, officials from both states have begun issuing challans to numerous roadways buses from the other state.
In the video, the conductor repeatedly asks the uniformed constable, whose face and head are covered, to pay a fare of Rs 50 or get off. However, the constable refuses, saying, “You will not get it,” despite the conductor’s continued insistence. The conductor even signals the driver to stop the bus, instructing the officer to disembark, but the constable remains seated, further arguing over the payment.
Penalties on buses from both states
After the clip went viral on social media, Haryana Police imposed fines on more than 50 RSRTC buses running on routes through Gurugram, Faridabad, and other areas. In response, Rajasthan authorities fined 26 Haryana Roadways buses operating within Rajasthan, with nine issued challans in Jaipur’s Sindhi Camp and 17 in other parts of the state.
RSRTC reported penalties for buses from depots, including Jaipur and Alwar, for infractions such as drivers not wearing uniforms or seatbelts. RSRTC officials also claimed that Delhi Police were issuing similar fines to their buses.
According to reports, Haryana traffic police began stopping and issuing fines to RSRTC buses, even photographing buses they had penalised. Meanwhile, Rajasthan traffic police have escalated their response, seizing eight Haryana Roadways buses on Sunday.
