Why did Sunita Williams not come with the astronauts who returned from ISS, what is NASA's plan?

New Delhi : The SpaceX Dragon capsule carrying four astronauts returned safely to the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Pensacola, Florida on Friday. This capsule returned after staying on the International Space Station (ISS) for 235 days. This is Elon Musk's longest manned mission to date. However, stranded NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore did not return to that capsule. Both astronauts flew to the ISS in June and were expected to return within a week. However, there is still hope left.

Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore experienced mission problems due to a helium leak and engine failure in their Boeing Starliner capsule. Starliner launched on June 4, but Williams and Wilmore remained on the ISS for more than four months. In August, NASA announced that it would soon bring astronauts home. NASA also said that the safety of the astronauts is its top priority and it will use all means to bring them back.

These include Matthew Dominic, Michael Barrett and Janet Epps from NASA and Alexander Grebenkin from Roscosmos.

Meanwhile, NASA developed a new plan to bring back the astronauts, for which the SpaceX Crew-8 mission was ready to help these astronauts. The Crew-8 capsule contained NASA's Nick Hague and Roscosmos' Alexander Gorbunov, with two seats left vacant. However, due to some reason these astronauts were unable to return. This begs the question, why did Williams and Wilmore not return to the Crew 8 capsule? We also learn what these two astronauts are doing in space?

NASA tweeted

Why don't you come back Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore. In fact, the capsule already had seats available for four astronauts. These included Matthew Dominic, Michael Barrett and Janet Epps from NASA and Alexander Grebenkin from Roscosmos. But in this situation you have to remember one thing, couldn't they have stopped the two astronauts and brought them back? However, there is no clear answer to this question. NASA also shared a tweet about the arrival of the remaining astronauts.
