The kidnapping took place when both of them were leaving Karnavati Club in a car and their vehicle was ambushed by goons. According to a news piece in the Financial Express, Adani and Patel found themselves at the mercy of gun-wielding kidnappers on scooters. The miscreants halted their car, took them captive, and whisked them away to an unknown location. The captors then demanded a ransom between $1.5 million and $2 million for their safe return. Thankfully, the twist in their tale came later that day when they were set free.

Gautam Adani was born into a Gujarati Jain family in Ahmedabad, where his father was a small textile merchant. Adani started his own business after dropping out of Gujarat University in 1988.
