Nobel laureate Nargis Mohammadi, who is in Iran's jail, will be admitted to the hospital, approval received.

Tehran: Iran's jailed Nobel laureate Nargis Mohammadi has been given permission by the authorities to be admitted to the hospital for treatment. Mohammadi has been ill for about nine weeks. This information was given by an organization about the social worker.

The Free Norwegian Coalition said in a statement on Sunday that Mohammadi should be granted medical leave for treatment. The statement also said that months of neglect and lack of care had resulted in this serious health problem. Shifting him to hospital will not solve this problem.

Mohammadi is kept in Evin prison in Iran. Political prisoners and people associated with western countries are kept in this jail. She was already serving a 30-month sentence. After this, 15 months more were added to his sentence in January.

Mohammadi sentenced to six more months

Iranian authorities issued a further six-month sentence against him on Saturday. This additional punishment was added to him because he had protested against the hanging of another political prisoner in the women's ward of Evin prison on August 6.

Organization's demand for Mohammadi Nargis

Mohammadi suffered from heart disease and was released in September. According to his medical report, he has again developed serious complications in the main artery of his heart. The organization said they will continue to demand Mohammadi's unconditional release and full medical care.

Why is Nargis Mohammadi in jail?

Nargis Mohammadi has received the Nobel Peace Prize for the year 2023. She has been a prominent human rights activist in Iran for years. Nargis Mohammadi was arrested in 2021. She was trying to visit a memorial for a man killed in nationwide protests in 2019 over rising gasoline prices.
