MS Dhoni reveals the most difficult day during a Test match

MS Dhoni led India to success across formats in international cricket. The legendary cricketer said that Day 5 of a Test match was the most difficult for him, especially when it was clear that there would be no outcome. Batters and bowlers had chances to improve their tallies, but it was difficult for a wicketkeeper to keep wickets on such days.

“For me, the most challenging day was the fifth day of a Test match when you were sure that the result couldn’t be achieved. I would have had to keep wickets for 2.5 sessions, which was tiring. You still have to play your role despite knowing that there is no result happening. The batters scored runs, and bowlers picked up wickets, but there was nothing a wicketkeeper could do.

“Imagine telling someone who has no interest in cricket that we play for five days and the game starts at at 9.30 and 4.30 is the stumps time. We play till 5 pm sometimes but still there is no result after five days. That’s not nice for cricket,” MS Dhoni said.

Dhoni played 90 Tests, scoring 4,876 runs at an average of 38.09, with six centuries and 33 fifties.

Dhoni also hailed the result-oriented brand of Test cricket that is being played these days by almost all teams.

“You can call cricket with any name (Bazball) but the players have started playing Test matches differently these days. There are diffrent ways to play five-day format. Some players do play aggressively while some players want to try out traditional style. A lot depends on the kind of players you have in your team,” he added.
