Banana Pakodas Recipe

Life Style: Banana Pakodas or Banana Bhaji is a classic South Indian recipe that is perfect for the monsoon season. Bhaji is best eaten with tea or coffee, making this combo perfect for the rainy season. You can make delicious banana pakodas at home with just a few ingredients like raw banana, gram flour, rice flour, red chilli powder, turmeric, baking soda, salt and water. We have used mustard oil to fry the pakodas here, but you can use coconut oil to add more 'South Indian' flavor to the dish. If you don't want to deep fry the pakodas, you can lightly fry them in 2-4 tablespoons of oil on a non-stick pan. Banana Pakodas are a mixture of slightly sweet and salty flavors that will give a unique experience to your taste buds. 1 large green raw banana

2 tbsp rice flour

1/4 tsp turmeric

salt as required

1 cup mustard oil

3/4 cup gram flour

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp red chilli powder

1/4 cup water

Step 1 Prepare the raw banana

Peel the raw banana and cut it into long and thin slices. Soak it in water for 5 minutes and meanwhile prepare the batter.

Step 2 Preparing the Batter

In a bowl add gram flour, rice flour, red chilli powder, salt and turmeric along with 1/2 cup water. Mix well to make a thick batter. Add baking soda and stir to make the batter fluffy.

Step 3 Dip Banana Slices in Batter

Take the banana slices out of the water and dry them with a kitchen towel. Now dip them in the gram flour batter and coat well from all sides.

Step 4 Heat oil in a pan

Add oil to the pan and keep it on high flame. When the oil starts smoking, reduce the flame to medium. If you are using mustard oil then this step is very important.

Step 5 Fry the bananas

Now gently drop the banana pieces into the hot oil. Fry until golden on both sides. Take out the fried pieces on absorbent paper.

Step 6 Ready to serve

Banana Pakodas are now ready to serve. Serve with chutney of your choice.
