MS Dhoni sacrificed his batting spot for Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube: Former CSK captain explains reason behind change in his order in IPL

Legendary CSK batter MS Dhoni has finally opened up about batting at the No. 8 spot in the Indian Premier League. Dhoni feels that he has achieved everything in his career, and other players in the CSK team deserve to bat higher in the batting order.

Dhoni has not batted in the middle order for CSK in the last few years and has moved down to a lower position. Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja have been promoted in the batting order, and the veteran has been slammed for not facing enough deliveries during his innings.

Dhoni has also been impactful in his new batting position. In IPL 2024, the right-handed batter scored 161 runs at an average of 53.66 and a strike rate of 220.54.

During an event in Goa, MS Dhoni broke his silence on his batting position. MSD said that he wanted to give more chances to all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube, who were likely to be part of Team India’s squad for the ICC T2O World Cup 2024.

“If others are batting well there is no need for me to bat in the middle order. It was different last year as India were supposd to compete in the T20 World Cup and some of our players were likely to play for the teram. It was imporant for me to allow Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube to face more balls in the middle,” Dhoni said.

Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube played key roles in India’s success in the global tournament.

“I have achieved what I wanted to achieve in my career and let the other guys have a crack at glory. I am good playing behind them.”

Dhoni recently confirmed that he would be playing for CSK in IPL 2025. He led the franchise to five IPL titles before leaving the captaincy ahead of the 17th season.
