Lucknow Super Giants can retain 5 players including Nicholas Puran before IPL 2025 auction, one was sold for Rs 16 crore

Lucknow Super Giants IPL 2025: Lucknow Super Giants can retain uncapped Mohsin Khan and Ayush Badoni apart from Nicholas Puran, Mayank Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi before the Indian Premier League 2025 auction. According to the news of ESPNcricinfo, the Lucknow franchise will not retain KL Rahul, who was the captain of the team from the first season, in 2022.

However, it is not known how much money the franchise will pay to these five players. But based on the retention slab set by the IPL, Rs 51 crore will be deducted from Lucknow's purse. If the total amount paid to the five exceeds Rs 51 crore, the excess amount will be deducted from the Rs 120 crore purse given to each franchise to build its team for IPL 2025.

Puran had performed brilliantly for Lucknow in 2024 and he also played the role of captain and wicketkeeper in place of Rahul, who was out of the initial matches due to injury. Lucknow had bought Puran for Rs 16 crore before IPL 2023. Mayank was the player of the match in his IPL debut in 2024, consistently bowling at speeds of 150 kmph and above. He was ruled out of the tournament due to injury after playing just four matches. He recently made his international debut for India. The franchise had bought him for just Rs 20 lakh in the 2024 auction.

Bishnoi was one of the three players that Lucknow signed for Rs 4 crore ahead of the mega auction ahead of IPL 2022, when he was an uncapped player. When Lucknow qualified for the playoffs in 2022, Bishnoi took 13 wickets at an average of 8.44. After this, in the next season he took 16 wickets and played an important role in taking Lucknow to the playoffs for the second consecutive time. However, last season he took only 10 wickets in 14 matches.

Both Badoni and Mohsin are uncapped and were bought by Lucknow for Rs 20 lakh each in the 2022 auction. He played a vital role in the success of Lucknow. Badoni scored 238 runs in 12 innings at a strike rate of 138 in 2023. He also recently played in the Emerging Series for India A. Whereas fast bowler Mohsin impressed in his first IPL season in 2022. He took 14 wickets in just nine matches. In 2024, he took 10 wickets in 10 matches.
