This time there is confusion regarding Diwali where Diwali will be celebrated on the dates of 31st October and 1st November. What to do when new idols are replaced with old idols
Here, if you are replacing old idols with new idols on the occasion of Diwali, then you should follow the rules related to keeping the old idols.
1-Immerse in river or pond
Here on Diwali, when new idols of Goddess Lakshmi and Shri Ganesh are brought for worship, the old idols should be immersed in a holy river or pond. You should also take care that there is no dirt of any kind here.
2- Should be kept respectfully
After bringing new idols for worship here, the old idol should be kept respectfully at some place in the house. Also, it is better to keep them clean by protecting them from dust.

3- Rule of donation
If you cannot immerse it here, then after Diwali you can donate the old idols to any temple, just make sure that you take good care of the idol here.
4- bury it in the ground
Here after Diwali, if the idols of Lakshmi-Ganesh ji are made of clay, then they should be buried in the soil at some deep place or you can immerse the idol of Lakshmi ji in the tub and keep their soil in a pot.

Rules for immersion of idols
Here are the rules related to immersion of the old idol after Diwali. If it is not possible to immerse the idol in the river, then you can immerse the idol in a bucket or a tub at home and later pour that water in a garden, this will help in bathing the idol. It also gets discharged and the water also does not get polluted. If there is metal, flowers, clothes etc. with the idol, separate them before immersion.
