Bangladesh on back foot due to centuries from Tony Di Giorgi and Stubbs, South Africa in strong position
Cricket News Desk. Openers Tony De Giorgi and Tristan Stubbs scored maiden Test centuries as South Africa scored 307 for two on the first day of the second and final Test against Bangladesh. Georgie was on 141 and David Bedingham was on 18 when play was stopped early due to bad light. Stubbs scored 106 runs in 198 balls with the help of six fours and three sixes.
Left arm spinner Taijul Islam took both wickets for 110 runs in 30 overs. South African captain Aiden McCrum won the toss and decided to bat first. Georgi and Makram made a partnership of 69 runs which was broken by Taijul. He scored 33 runs in 52 balls and got McCrum caught at mid-on.
Tony got a big boost in the innings
Georgi played a high shot on the ball of fast bowler Hasan Mahmood but debutant Mahidul Islam could not catch the catch. Bangladesh had to suffer the consequences of this. Georgi completed his century in 146 balls. Meanwhile, Stubbs hit three consecutive sixes on Mehdi Hasan Miraj. He completed his century in 194 balls by dismissing Mominul Haq at sweeper cover. Taijul broke Stubbs's 201-run partnership with Georgie by dismissing him. Tony has hit 10 fours and 3 sixes in his innings.
