The Ministry of Consumer, Food and Public Distribution said in a statement issued on Wednesday that under the Price Stabilization Fund, the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) has purchased 840 metric tonnes of onion from farmers. This onion purchased by NAFED has reached Kishanganj railway station in New Delhi. The ministry said that it will be launched in Azadpur Mandi to increase the availability of onion.

According to the ministry, partial stock will be available for retail sale at the rate of Rs 35 per kg. This is the second bulk transportation of onions by train in Delhi-NCR, before which NCCF had brought 1,600 metric tonnes of onions to Kishanganj station by Kanda Express on October 20. To increase the overall availability in the market, most of the onions will be released to Azadpur mandi while some part of the stock will go for retail sale at the rate of Rs 35 per kg.

The Consumer Affairs Ministry said that another train will reach Guwahati from Nashik carrying 840 metric tonnes of onions. The ministry informed that bulk transportation of onion by rail rack has been adopted for the first time for timely, reliable and cost-effective delivery of onion to various regions. NAFED had earlier sent 840 metric tonnes of onion by rail rack from Nashik, which reached Chennai on October 26. According to the ministry, another rail rake of onion from Nashik has left for Guwahati this morning, carrying 840 metric tonnes of onion purchased by NCCF.

The central government had purchased 4.7 lakh tonnes of Rabi onion for buffer stock this year under price stabilization, which it started releasing from September 5 through retail sale at Rs 35 per kg and also through wholesale sale in major mandis across the country. Has given. So far, more than 1.40 lakh tonnes of onion from the buffer stock has been sent from Nashik and other source centers to the consumption centers by road transport through trucks. NCCF has covered 104 destinations in 22 states in its onion disposal, while NAFED has covered 52 destinations in 16 states.

It is noteworthy that NCCF and NAFED agencies have partnered with retail chains like Safal, Kendriya Bhandar and Reliance Retail for distribution of onion to retail consumers at an affordable price of Rs 35 per kg. Apart from this, 86,500 metric tonnes of onion has been allocated to 9 state governments and cooperative societies for retail distribution. In fact, bulk shipment has increased the continuous transportation of onions by trucks across the country while onions are being supplied for the first time through rail racks.
