Why was Rizwan appointed as the captain of Pakistan? Here’s the answer.

Muhammad Rizwan, Pakistan’s newly appointed skipper for the white-ball format, has allayed his initial misgivings about the PCB’s latest selection guidelines and will henceforth be uninvolved in the voting process for touring squads or playing elevens, as per an insider in the board. “Rizwan confirmed, after talking with the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Mohsin Naqvi, and head selector, Aaqib Javed, that he would only serve in a non-decision-making capacity concerning the new system,” the source recounted.

On Monday, Gary Kirsten, the newly appointed head coach of Pakistan’s white-ball format of cricket, stepped down from his position after he expressed his refusal to be involved in the selection process on a superficial advisory level. He also had some other issues with the PCB.

The source continued to say that Rizwan’s assurance from PCB and Aaqib was that he will have a role in the team finalizing process but all the powers again would repose with the five selectors.

“According to the new approach, it is now the responsibility of the selection phase also to pick up touring squads and playing eleven,” said the source.

The new regime was incorporated by the PCB after Pakistan thumped a crushing defeat against England in the first test match of the series held at Multan earlier this month.

In the aftermath of the innings defeat, the selection criteria was augmented by Aaqib, Azhar Ali, and Aleem Dar, who were included in the panel and empowered with unequivocal authority to assemble the teams disregarding the captain and head coach.

They are also sending Asad Shafiq, the national selector, along with the team to Australia for the white ball series in order to finalize the playing eleven in consultation with the other selectors in Pakistan.
