Air health deteriorated in Delhi on Diwali, AQI frightening; Strict action against those who burn firecrackers

The condition of air in the capital Delhi has worsened on the day of Diwali. The AQI in Anand Vihar area has been recorded in the 'severe' category, and pollution may increase to severe levels by this evening. Officials said that strictest action will be taken against those who burn firecrackers, for this 377 teams have been formed.

Delhi's average air quality index (AQI) was 307 at 8 am on Thursday, down from 268 on Tuesday, while the AQI in Anand Vihar at 8 am on Thursday was 419, just 81 below the maximum level. In such a situation, the figures of Anand Vihar are scary because there is no hope of getting relief from pollution even on Diwali day and Friday. IITM Pune said the AQI in Delhi will be 'very poor' on Thursday and Friday.

Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said that 377 teams have been formed to enforce the ban on firecrackers across Delhi, which may increase the problems of the people. He said officials are in touch with resident welfare associations (RWAs), market associations and social organizations. A senior Delhi Police official said all Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) have been asked to form teams to ensure that firecrackers are not burst in their respective districts. Officials said that strict action will be taken against those violating the ban.
