Manika Batra jumps four places in ITTF rankings
Star Indian paddler Manika Batra climbed up in the International Table Tennis Federation rankings to solidify her position further in the world’s top 30.
Coming on the back of a strong showing at the WTT Champions in Montpellier, Manika is ranked 26th in the women’s singles ranking, just one behind Sreeja Akula.
Last week, Manika Batra created history as she became the first-ever Indian woman paddler to reach the quarter-finals of the WTT Champions event.
Manika had started her campaign at the WTT Champions Montpellier with a comprehensive 3-0 (11-4, 11-8, 12-10) win over USA’s Lily Zhang. In the next round, she stunned world No.14 Bernadette Szocs of Romania and won 3-1 (11-9 6-11 13-11 11-9) in 29 minutes against the eighth-seeded paddler.
While she lost to world number 21 Qian Tianyi of China 0-3 (8-11, 8-11, 10-12) in the quarter-finals, it was a historic moment for Indian Table Tennis.
In men’s singles, Achanta Sharath Kamal remains India’s top paddler with a world rank of 40 followed by Manav Thakkar at world number 62 and Sathiyan G at world number 73.
Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee are the top Indian pair in women’s doubles placed at world number 14 while Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah are the top-ranked Indian men’s doubles pair placed at world number 13.
In mixed doubles, Diya Chitale and Manush Shah are ranked 14th in the world making them the top Indian pair.
