‌IPL Retentions | Twitter overjoyed as uncapped MS Dhoni set to feature in CSK for yet another IPL chapter

The 43-year-old will be returning to action for the 18th edition of the glitterati league at an uncapped price of INR 4 Crore. The other four retentions of CSK are Ruturaj Gaikwad (INR 18 Cr), Matheesha Pathirana (INR 13 Cr), Shivam Dube (INR 12 Cr), and Ravindra Jadeja (INR 18 Cr). Having invested INR 55 Crore in retentions, they’ll be entering the mega-auction with INR 65 Crore.

Since Dhoni hasn’t played International cricket or held a central contract for five years, he can be labeled as an uncapped player as per the retention rule. The particular rule was scrapped ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction but made ethical for the particular edition. Dhoni last represented the Indian team in the 2019 World Cup Semi-Final against New Zealand.

Dhoni passed the leadership hat to Ruturaj Gaikwad in the previous edition where CSK finished fifth in the league table, pipped lately by Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He ended up playing the role of a pinch-hitter lower down the order, mustering 161 runs from 14 matches at a strike rate of 220.55.
