Wasim Akram: Indian cricketers will receive special treatment in Pakistan
Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has a special message for the BCCI and the Indian government regarding the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will be held in Pakistan in February next year.
Akram said that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have a huge fan following in Pakistan, and the Indian players will be given special treatment in the country.
“The vibes look positive from the BCCI and the Indian government. I read somewhere that their games are in Lahore, and they will play in the city and will travel back the same night after every match. I am okay with this arrangement as long as India is comfortable.
“The Indian players will be looked after well. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya have a lot of fans in Pakistan. The young cricketers love them,” he said on ESPNcricinfo.
The global tournament is returning to the calendar after eight years and will be played between February 19 and March 9 in Pakistan.
India haven’t played in Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hasn’t received any confirmation from the Indian government on whether the Men in Blue will be allowed to compete in Pakistan.
If the Indian government doesn’t agree, the tournament could be played using the Hybrid Model, meaning Rohit’s team would play all its games at a neutral venue. The ICC has another option: taking the entire tournament out of Pakistan.
