Odisha News: Odisha government reduced the security of former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, now only two constables will be deployed.

New Delhi. Odisha Government has reduced the security of five-time former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik to Y category. Earlier he was given Z category security. An official gave this information on Thursday.

The official said that following the recommendation of the high level security committee, most of the security personnel engaged in protecting Patnaik have been removed. Now Patnaik will be accompanied by only two security personnel of Havildar rank. He said that usually former chief ministers are given two personal security officers (PSOs). Whenever Patnaik requires additional security, it will be provided to him by the local police. Especially when he is outside Bhubaneswar.

However, Patnaik has also personally appointed two senior PSOs, who recently retired from government service. After the general elections this year, Patnaik lost power after 24 years. After which the number of security personnel engaged in his residence and security was reduced to 23. Whereas earlier 268 personnel were deployed in three shifts at his residence Naveen Niwas. Last month in September, the then BJD government had formed a special squad for Patnaik's security. On the decision to cut security, a former BJD minister said, people should decide for themselves whether Patnaik should get adequate security or not.
