Virat Kohli scripted history after Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) retained him for INR 21 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. The Bengaluru-based team also retained Rajat Patidar and Yash Dayal.
Heinrich Klaasen is the most expensive retained player, as Sunrisers Hyderabad decided to pay him INR 23 crore. Lucknow Super Giants will pay Nicholas Pooran INR 21 crore.
Virat Kohli has created history as he became the first Indian cricketer to earn more than INR 20 crore as a salary. Earlier, Kohli (Rs. 17 crore by RCB ) and KL Rahul (Rs. 17 crore by LSG) were the top-bracket Indian cricketers.
In the new retention list, Jasprit Bumrah, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Sanju Samson have been retained by their respective franchises for INR 18 crore.
Last season, Mitchell Starc (Rs. 24.75 crore) and Pat Cummins (Rs. 20.5 crore) were the first two players to breach the INR 20 crore mark in the tournament.
