This innings of VVS Laxman in Kolkata is counted among the best innings in the entire Test history.

VVS Laxman saved India from defeat

In this test, the Indian team was on the verge of defeat by an innings. Then VVS Laxman, along with Rahul Dravid, performed such a feat which is remembered even today. During this time, the captaincy of Team India was given to young captain Sourav Ganguly. Ganguly was preparing such a team which could make India win not only in India but on any pitch in the world. Then Australia came to tour India.

Under the captaincy of Steve Waugh, Australia came to India after winning 15 consecutive matches, while in the 16th match it defeated India in the Mumbai Test. After which she came close to her 17th victory. In this innings, Australia had scored 445 runs in the first innings. In reply, Team India collapsed for just 171 runs.
