New Delhi. The country's renowned economist Dr. Bibek Debroy passed away this morning. There was infection in his intestines. Bibek was the chairman of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Committee. Bibek was appointed to this post in September 2017. Before this he was associated with NITI Aayog. Bibek Debroy had a special contribution in formulating and implementing various government policies to take India's economy to a new dimension. Expressing condolences on the demise of Bibek, PM Narendra Modi has shared a photo of himself with him.

In his condolence message on social media, Modi wrote, Dr. Bibek Debroy ji was a great scholar, who was well-versed in economics, history, culture, politics, spirituality and other diverse fields. Through his works he left an indelible mark on the intellectual landscape of India. In addition to his contributions to public policy, he enjoyed working on our ancient texts and making them accessible to youth. In his second post, the PM wrote, I have known Dr. Debroy for many years. I will fondly remember his insight and passion for academic discourse. Saddened by his demise. Condolences to his family and friends.
